Review: Diamond Candles’ Mistletoe and Watermelon Wedge

16 01 2013

Diamond Candles is a product site offering unique smelling candles each with a ring worth $10, $100, $500, or $5000 inside. You never know what you are going to get! I recently reviewed my Orchid Meadows candle and ring, and now I am going to review Watermelon Wedge and Mistletoe. Click HERE to shop for your own Diamond Candle. It is NOT a subscription site.

This is Watermelon Wedge. I can never wait to get my rings, so I always dig them out beforehand. This one is a particularly messy one that leaves red residue on your hands should you also try to dig out the ring before it melts down far enough. I have burned it to try to mold it back to its original shape a little bit. This one is a little too sweet for me – it doesn’t make you hungry so much as a little annoyed at how cloying the scent is. I had to quit burning it because these wicks give me problems… the flame is either too high or too low. I’ve never experienced that with Yankee Candle (though they are harder to smell). Is there a perfect candle out there anywhere? Here’s the ring that came in Watermelon Wedge:

This is a smaller one, since it only fits on my pinky. Underwhelming, again. Basically the EXACT same ring as was in my Orchid Meadow candle. It seems too much money that has to be spent in order to get a ring that’s even cool-looking, much less actually worth something. I don’t know how Anisha from Everyone Loves a Treasure got such awesome rings on the first try. I clearly expected too much.

Here’s Mistletoe, which is the same color as Watermelon Wedge. It doesn’t seem to be as runny, however, which is a plus. It wasn’t as annoying to try and get the ring out beforehand. I hadn’t even burned this one when I dug a hole to fish for the ring. I thought I had ruined the ring, to be honest, because it cut through the packaging and got candle crap all over it. I soaked it, however, and it turned out fine. Mistletoe smells like a pine tree and cinnamon. It’s a smell that really sticks with you.

Finally, a ring that isn’t complete crap! This is one like what I wanted – one that doesn’t look like a basic diamond and actually has some personality to it! Needless to say, it’s my favorite of the three I’ve received so far. But, as mentioned, it’s a lot of money to spend for a bunch of shots in the dark.

Final Answer: I don’t know that I will buy these again any time soon. Even with my discount on sneakpeeq it was still around $19 (originally $27!). These are huge candles, worth the price if you like a long burning time. But I’m loyal to Yankee Candle samplers and only buying these for the rings. In that case, is it worth it? Not really. After all, I’m not really in the market for a ring. I’m already engaged. :-)

Good DC review! I thought mistletoe looked like a good scent. Have you tried the 3-8-1 Candles yet? They’ve got the great scent throw like Yankee has, and they have real jewelry inside. More expensive than DC but worth it I think.

I have heard of one with necklaces but I wasn’t sure if it was that one or not. Necklaces might be more interesting than rings.
